"Drachma" was the first official Greece currency that was used in various times of Greek history. After its ancient circulation, the Greek Drachma was reintroduced in 1832, subdivided into hundred smaller units termed as "lepta".

Greece coins were first minted in the denominations of 1λ, 2λ, 5λ, and 10λ that were made out of copper. ₯1⁄4, ₯1⁄2, ₯ one and ₯ five minted out of silver while a ₯20 coins made out of gold. When Greece joined the Latin Monetary System in 1868, the Greek Drachma was declared equal in value and weight to the Franc. Various changes occurred in the coins before they were replaced by the euro in 2002.
