Italian coins have a very vast history featuring some of the most circulated coins in Europe in history. Florin that was first struck in the 13th century, was one of the most used coinage systems in Europe. Various coinage systems were used in Italy. All of the Italian cities came to unison in 1861, and the Italian lira was introduced that became the currency of the whole country.
Out of all Italian coins, Florin was one of the most circulated coins in Europe. These coins had a design featuring a fleur-de-lis badge of the city on one of its sides while standing and facing the figure of St. John the Baptist with a hair shirt on the other side. The Italian lira had its design representing the country that was replaced by euros.
