Although error coins are the coins that are the result of any unintended changes applied to the coins while the minting procedure, the US government produced US coin errors on purpose. American Numismatic Association has provided three different categories to create these coins: die errors, mint striking errors, and planchet errors. Although, these errors variety is not limited here.

The numismatic value of US coin errors is usually dependent on the rarity and the type of error. But the coin's denomination is also considered as the error coins with higher denominations are of greater worthier than that with the lesser denominations. Moreover, the older coins have greater value than those minted in the modern age.

Because of the rarity and greater value, US error coins are popular among collectors. Some of the rarest error coins include the 1922 plain penny, silver pennies, the Scarcest Jefferson Nickels, and many more.
