US Nickels
United States Mint is responsible for the production of five-cent coins known as US nickels. As the country faced various circumstances following the American Civil War, one of them was the circulation of precious metals. As paper money was introduced to combat these circumstances, so were the five-cent coins made out of nickels.
Some of the most popular collectible US Nickels include the 1913 Liberty Head Nickels, the 1964 Jefferson Nickels, 1936 Buffalo Nickels, and the 1867 Shield Nickels. Each of these coins has a unique history and design, making them highly sought-after by collectors.
In 1866, the two-cent and three-cent coins were introduced to reduce the need for precious metals. After the success of these cents, five-cent coins were also minted using a base metal. US nickels were stamped out of 75% copper and 25% nickel. These coins were minted at the mints in Philadelphia and Denver.
