Seated Liberty Dollars
The Seated Liberty Dollar is one of the most popular coins among collectors. Minted from 1836 to 1873, these coins feature the image of Liberty seated on a rock with her right hand resting on a shield and her left hand holding a staff. The obverse side of the coin bears the inscription "Liberty" and the date, while the reverse side features the denomination ("One Dime") and a wreath.
These coins were minted in Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Carson City, and each mint mark is avidly sought by collectors. While most Seated Liberty Dollars are worth only a few dollars, rarer examples can sell for thousands of dollars. Some of the popular coins include the 1870 Seated Liberty Dollars, and 1858 Seated Liberty Half Dollars.
Coins with low mintages or those that were struck using inferior quality metals are particularly valuable. For example, the 1851-O No Arrows dime is one of the most highly coveted Seated Liberty Dollars due to its low mintage of just 24,600 pieces.
As a result, this coin typically sells for tens of thousands of dollars in good condition. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting out, Seated Liberty coins are a great addition to any collection.
