German Paper Money

As Germany was involved in various world wars, it faced severe circumstances and inflations at different times. There were times that the currency of Germany had so little value concerning the dollar that it has to struggle a lot. In 1874, the first German paper money was issued by the German Treasury.

In 1876, Reichsbank was established that started issuing banknotes that were denominated in marks known as Reichsbank notes. The link between paper money and gold was broken in 1914; the German banknotes were called papiermarks. Exceptionally dramatic hyperinflation was experienced by the country during the years 1921 to 1923. Through various changes, the country settled with European Union to adopt Euros in 2001.

Collectors of paper money collect German paper money due to its uniqueness and reflection of historical events. German currency includes 100 Reichsmark 1924, 1000 Dm Deutsche Mark 1991, Germany 1000 Dm 1980, and many more.
