Switzerland Stamps

Cantons of Zurich (1843), Geneva (1843), and Basel (1845) were the first ones to introduce postage stamps into Switzerland for their use. In 1850, the first federal issue of the Switzerland stamps was issued. When the country was turned into the Helvetic Republic in 1798, the cantonal and private mail services were taken over, and the country was divided into five postal districts.

The Swiss stamps were inscribed with the same word "Helvetia" in four different languages, i.e., "Schweiz", "Suisse", "Svizzera", or "Svizra" in German, French, Italian, and Romansch. Given the space on a stamp, this was quite a difficult task for the Swiss to put all four languages. But now, the only word written on the Switzerland stamps is "Helvetia".

Swiss stamps are not just a historical representation of the country or have unique designs; they are rare and valuable. Some of the most valuable Switzerland stamps worth a lot of money include the 1850 5 Rp Rayon I stamp, the 1845 Basel Dove stamp, the 1850 10-Rappen Rayon II stamp, and many more.
