France & Colonies Stamps

The postage stamps issued by France during the French colonial empire are referred to as "French colonies" by the philatelists. These French colonies stamps were used from 1859 to 1906 and from 1943 to 1945. In 1859, the first series of stamps were issued in small square shape featuring an eagle and a crown in a round frame.

Various series of France and colonies stamps were introduced afterward, including the 'Ceres' introduced in1871-72, which featured Ceres and Emperor Napoleon III profiles. In 1881, the commerce series were introduced that were issued in various values and were first printed in yellow that in black on a rose-colored paper. Navigation and commerce series was introduced in 1892. After World war II, different series were produced.

Some of the rarest and most valuable France and colonies stamps include 1Fr Light carmine on yellowish tete-beche, 10c Bister on yellowish Tete-Beche block, 1850 25 centimes tete-beche pair, and many more.
