Russia & Soviet Union Stamps
From 1923 to 1991, the stamps of the Soviet Union were issued that have the word "Russian" inscribed on them. As this State was the world's first socialist state, the Russian and Soviet Union stamps reflected the State's history, politics, culture, and economics. The first series of stamps introduced was designed by Georgy Pashkov.
In 1923, the first series of USSR definitive stamps were issued that were designed by Ivan Shade, who proposed three different designs, one featuring a bust of workers, the other a peasant, and the third one a Red Army. At this time, the government planned on improving the selling of stamps in the international market to make some hard currency.
Some of the rarest and most valuable Russian and Soviet Union stamps include Soviet Air Post "Wide 5" surcharged, yellow stamp with peasant design named Limonka, 1931 Aspidka, 1935 Levanevsky, and many more.
