US Paper Money
As the history of US coins goes way back, so is that of paper currency. The US treasury department engraved and printed the first US paper currency, known as fractional notes, which was engraved and published in 1863 by the US treasury department. From Colonial Currency, Confederate Currency, Large Size Notes, Bank Checks, to Errors, to Replicas and Reproductions, the US paper money has passed many eras.
The Bureau of Engraving and printing was established by congress in 1874 that started designing, engraving, printing, and distributing US paper currency. In recent times, the largest mints for the production of US paper money are located in Washington, DC, and Fort Worth, Texas.
Paper money has always been popular among collectors to its unique designs and connection with history. Some of the most valuable US paper money includes Grand Watermelon Bills, modern era Federal-Reserve notes, $1 silver certificate, uncirculated $2 bill crisp, and many more.
