In 1823, the first Mexican banknotes were produced and issued by Emperor Agustin de Iturbide. The denomination of these coins were one, two, and ten pesos (Mexican currency). The Mexican banknotes currently circulated come in multiple denominations that are 20 pesos, 50 pesos, 100 pesos, 200 pesos, and 500 pesos.
These banknotes are produced by the American Banknote Company, while the new series of notes are printed and distributed by the Bank of Mexico. In 2009, the Bank of Mexico also introduced a set of commemorative banknotes featuring various memorable events in Mexican history.
As Mexican paper money has undergone various phases and eras, some of the old banknotes of the region are very rare and valuable. Thus are preferred by collectors worldwide. Some valuable Mexican banknotes include 1000 pesos, Mexico bill prefix AA uncirculated, $2 2009 Star Flag and Coats of Arms Mexico lucky money, and many more.
