Mexico Stamps
The Mexican postal system features many eras and issuance of various stamp series at different times. The classic stamp period started in 1856 and lasted till 1874. The first Mexican stamps produced were in 1856; these stamps were adhesive stamps that featured postage prepayment introduced by President Don Ignacio Comonfort.
The design of the first Mexican stamps depicted the portrait of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. These stamps were engraved and imperforated. From 1856 to 1859, the symbols produced came in five values that include ½ real, 1r, 2r, 4r, and 8r. At times, the same designed stamps were introduced in different colors.
Some rare and valuable Mexican stamps include the 1883 Mexico 12 Centavos foreign mail issue, Memin Pinguin comic stamp, and many more.
