South Africa Stamps
Before the Union of South Africa, each part of the country had its stamps, including Natal, Cape of Good Hope, Stellaland, Orange Free State, and many more. The South Africa stamps issued for the first time by the Union of South Africa were in 1910. The first stamp issued was a 2 ½ d stamp that featured the monarch King George V and the arms of four British colonies that formed the union.
Most of the South African stamps produced and issued from 1926 to 1951 were usually in pairs. One of them had "SOUTH AFRICA" inscribed on them while the other one had "SUIDAFRIKA" and "SUID-AFRIKA" written on them. In 1961, the first set of Republic was issued that came with an inscription "REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA REPUBLIEK VAN SUID-AFRIKA", RSA, at present simply "SOUTH AFRICA".
South African stamps are not just unique and rare but also worth a lot of money. Some of the rarest and most valuable stamps include 1933 3d blue with center omitted, 1947-54 5s South Africa black and pale blue-green, and many more.
